Artist Statement
ART IS SELF-DETERMINATION

"What this world is missing is the realization that every person should find an own definition of happiness."

In the life of the artist Sandra Well, breaking with imposed beliefs and social norms was an essential step towards finding joy and meaning in her own existence.
She consciously turned away from authority and heteronomy in order to be able to live according to her own rules and needs.
She found a home in art, a place of free self-development. This requires individuality and mindfulness and this leads out of outdated conventions into a society of the present.

Sharing this special place is part of her art, with which she has already achieved national and international success. Through extensive experience with independent projects, the four-week exhibition of her works in the summer of 2022 caused enthusiasm. For this purpose, an exciting contrast between sacred reverence and modern spiritual art was staged in the former monastery church of Notre Dame du Sacré Coeur Eichstätt.
Further projects of a similar scale are planned for 2023.

Sandra Well was born in Nuremberg in 1993 and currently lives in Eichstätt, Bavaria.

in the smallest and most mundane things.

Photographs capture colors, shapes and textures.
Nature is inspiring in its arbitrariness and its laws.

concepts
These impressions need to be translated -to filter and empathize, to discover the essence of things, to place them in a different context or sometimes in contrast.

Sketches and ideas are created digitally or in small format on paper. Colors are mixed and tested.

"I always have this image in my mind of how things are washed up on the beach. The way they just lie there, in a kind of interaction that is difficult to recreate by human hands - harmonious but at the same time effortless and random, that's the ideal composition for me ."
painting ground
The stretcher frames are assembled, then covered with unprimed cotton canvas and watered.

The canvashasa warm beige coloring and natural texture that allows the color to absorb more.

layer by layer
the colored surfaces are applied and dried again and again in between.
Sometimes transparent with lots of water, sometimes opaque and strong.

Charcoal, oil and pastels complete the work with small but important details.

Framed by hand
with little to no shadow gap, the picture blends with the frame into a cohesive object.

The frames are always made of real wood, sometimes left natural, sometimes stained and sanded - individually selected for each picture and environment.
